A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian

by Marina Lewycka

It was supposed to be the funniest book in the world ever and it was up for various awards but when I read it it hardly made me crack a smile and the story was hopelessly dull. Huge disappointment

This book was amusing (just read the first page), but it was also thought provoking and containes a great deal of information about Ukrainian history. It is also a family story. I go to a Readers Group, and we voted it the best we had read in 2006.
I found this book really funny. The title itself was ironic and not one that I would have picked up normally, but once I started the book, I was compelled to finish it.
