Tokyo

by Mo Hayder

I hadn't really considered reading 'Tokyo' until I saw Mo Hayder speak at the Harrogate Festival and found her very charming and self-deprecating. She spoke with real passion and authority about the historical event around which this story is based; the massacre of Nanking. I thought I'd give it a go ... and I was absolutely gripped! The writing is totally uninhibited but deeply stylish and the protagonist Grey is a very believable weirdo. A brilliant, disturbing, mesmerising book!
