The Day of the Triffids

by John Wyndham

I don't usually read science-fiction, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There is plenty of action and suspense all the way through.

This book was chosen for our book group read. We haven't had the meeting yet and it will interesting to hear what others think. We haven't tried science fiction before. I enjoyed it and it kept me riveted throughout. There were a lot of things to think about too. A very appropriate book to read these days.
I don't normally go for science fiction books but I found this book really gripping from the start. I also enjoyed 'The Chrysalids' 2by the same author.

The first line of this book is one of the best hooks ever. The scenes of a blind London are still very powerful, and have been echoed in the film 28 Days Later. Alongside Brian Aldiss, and Quatermass author Nigel Kneale, Wyndham's books are thought-provoking, quietly disturbing, and have a very definite "English" feel.
As per usual film representations never live up to a book. Always best to read the book and get the full story, this is one of these books that grips the reader from the start and gives an insight into human behaviour after a catastrophy.

I don't like science fiction either but read this many years ago as a 'worthy' read. I thought it was very good and much better than any film representations.
